I just got back from the Halloween assembly at the elementary school that I work at here in Manhattan, Lee Elementary. It was filled with fun costumes from witches and animals to Bill Snyder! I had so much fun, mainly because I'm a big kid who likes to act like a little one still...I mean come on, who WOULDN'T enjoy the Monster Bash dance every once in a while? :)
Since it is Halloween and I am in the spirit, I will share some fall photos with you to help celebrate the holiday and the season. Have a great night, and happy Trick-or-Treating!! :)
Until then,

Delightful Fall Things Plus Some
So I am attempting to post more regularly on here, but it's hard with life and school and all the other things that come along my way making it impossible to do so! Nonetheless, this week I made some delicious (I think) things that are just fall-tastic (lame, I know...I am going to be a teacher, can you tell?)
First up, pumpkin spice muffins.
First up, pumpkin spice muffins.
It was a super easy recipe only requiring spice cake mix, 16 oz. of pumpkin, and 1 cup of water!
They bake in the over for 20-25 minutes at 350 and then...
...there you go! You have a delicious fall treat!
I had to focus on the best part of the treat...the Halloween cupcake liners. I'm sure the liners just made the treat taste that much better :)
This week I also bought ingredients to make my mom's sugar cookie recipe. I tried it out last year and it appeared to be a big success (as in, people liked the way they tasted) so I decided to try for a round 2, Fall/Halloween style!
Getting the frosting all ready...I had to mix colors to make the orange and green, but it turned out okay!
I made pumpkins...
...ghosts...yes please excuse the scary eyes! I thought it would add to the ghost, but alas, it did not...it just made it scarier than before!
...and even some yellow fall leaves! They looked festive and tasted "delightful."
At breakfast yesterday, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a picture of The Chef's delightful "hot chocolate." The presentation always looks great and it tastes even better!!
Just delicious, and the orange and green looked just like fall so I had to snap a shot ;)
This weekend brought some other funny pictures along the way, so even though they are not fall related, I figured they deserved to be blogged about as well! Have a fantastic end to your weekend and start to your week!!
As if we aren't alike enough already...
Couldn't pass this up...my boy sleeping with only a little peek of his KSU hat popping out. Love it!
Until then,

A Pinterest Wedding!!
As promised, I am here two days in a row!!!! This past weekend I had the priviledge of being a part of Ms. Sarah Hambley's (Gardner now!!) wedding. Let me tell you, this wedding was stinking straight off of pinterest. Seriously, once I add these pictures you should pin them all because it was ADORABLE!! It was soooooo Sarah and her personal touches were added all over the place which made her wedding so special :) Although I forgot to snap some shots of the beautiful bride and I (whoops!) I did get a lot of shots of the cutsie decorations that she added. So here goes :)
She got married at the Mahaffie Stagecoach. She completely transformed this room :)
This is one of the centerpieces she MADE!! (She made everything, but this looks so good!!) Hobby Lobby was her best friend along with her hot glue gun and tons of lace and twine :)
Another centerpiece with used books that we ripped apart (ah I cringe ripping up books!) She added some twine to mason jars, hydrangea, and apples added a simple elegance on each table.
Her table numbers were turned into little booklets with questions in them such as...
...this! So cute and personal and I'm sure they will have a great time reading all the responses!
The "Table of Shame" for those who didn't RSVP. Good thing I did!!
The bird seed favor that she made for her guests. So cute.
The cutest green and white straws for each guest to have with their mason jar. Etsy baby!!
She hung mason jars with hydrangea from the wooden pillars in the room. It looked GREAT!!
"Love is Sweet" banner for her mini pie table :)
The head table with the cute heart banner above it.
Escort cards for each guest. You tied your name around your mason jar so you knew which one was yours. So stinking cute!!
The wedding was a huge success and I know Sarah and Mitch had a great time! Like I said, go stinkin' pin everything on here because she did such a good job! Congrats again to Mitch and Sarah Gardner!
Until then,

Fall Fun
Hello Blogging World!
Sorry it has been a century and a half since I updated this thing. When a friend asked me why I hadn't updated in a while I began to say, "Because I just don't have time..." but then I realized that the real reason I hadn't updated was because I lead such a boring life and there was nothing to say! School indeed, has kept me busy, so I spend my weekends relaxing, babysitting, and spending as much quality time with my friends as I can. But, we don't do many exciting things so there really hasn't been much to blog about. That is, until this weekend.
I ADORE the Louisburg Cider Mill and I have made a yearly fall trip there for years. There is something about the pumpkins, cider, fall trees, and corn maze that just makes my heart jump. This weekend when I was home, we made the yearly trip :)

Kimmy and I with the world's BEST root beer! Homemade right in Louisburg!
The best donuts EVER!
Dad and Cam clearly loving the donuts.
Hay...one of my all time favorite fall things. You laugh, but I'm for real.
Beautiful pre-selected pumpkins.
It hasn't been the prettiest of falls, but this tree was beautiful.
By the cute barn where they make all the apple cider and apple cider donuts!
Enjoying our fall-fabulous day together :) :)
Picturesque backyard. Seriously, does this not look straight out of a magazine? AHHH I want it!!
We had so much fun on our fall day adventures as we drove around and enjoyed the beautiful weather and the fall scenery. If this post didn't put you in the fall mood, then I don't know what will!!
Next up...the beautiful Mrs. Sarah Gardner's wedding day. Straight off of pinterest folks..for reals. You don't want to miss it.
Until then,

A Pleasant Surprise
Hello Bloggers!!
I feel like it has been for-e-ver (Sandlot anyone??) since I have updated! I get mad at my student teaching friends because they never find time to update their blogs, and now I am becoming just as bad as they are and I'm not even student teaching yet! Ahhhh!!!! Block C is somewhat overwhelming my life right now...planning out year long management plans, preparing for an Economics Social Studies Unit, writing math observation papers, and attempting to study for my Literacy mid-term are some things that have been consuming my time. However, I did get a break this past week from the hustle and bustle of the tedious "homework" to actually go out into the schools and meet my kiddos for this semester! (Or should I say, young ladies and gentlemen of the semester...aka, 6th graders).
After getting my Block C Practicum placement, (6th grade...arghhh) I was somewhat disappointed. I had been building this semester up in my mind to be an increidble experience full of joy and excitment from my students, and then the bomb was dropped. 6th grade. This was by FAR and away my very last choice for grade preference. Not only do I not feel confident with the 6th grade curriculum, but I am at a loss for words with these kids. Hormones are raging at this age, the boys are taking an awkward interest in girls, and the attitude is at its finest. To say the least, I was dreading my first day of practicum orientation this past week.
After arriving in my classroom and having the students stare at me like, "Who the heck are you and why are you in my classroom taking up space?" (yes, that is literally what the looks on their faces indicated), my eyes were suddenly opened to a whole new world. My cooperating teacher, Mrs. Olberding, quickly came over and shook my partner and my hand's and introduced herself. Mrs. O has been teaching for nine years, and this is her 4th year in 6th grade, so she is now considered a veteran teacher. She sat down with us and instantly started reading up on our semester requirements and finding ways that she could make our lives easier. So far, so good. Even if I hated the students, I had a great teacher who knew what was going on. I could already tell I was going to learn so much from this seasoned teacher.
After getting our Social Studies unit topic (Economics...yes!! I was so relieved....this option was way better than Ancient Greece, Sparta, and the Incas and Aztecs..yuck!) Mrs. O also came up with some strong, engaging, literacy topics for us to teach the 6th graders as well (Similies vs. metaphors, propoganda, stereotypes, and bias, drawing conclusions and making inferences, and persuasive text). At this point, I began to calm down and told my blood pressure it no longer needed to sky rocket...maybe this semester would go better than I had prepared for. However I was still nervous about these students who were still, (yes, still) staring at my partner and I with eyes that looked like daggers. Half of these kids could probably beat me up in a matter of seconds, so you understand my fearfulness!
As I began making small talk with numerous students, I began to actually like these students. Not love, but like. I was refreshed at the thought of how independent they were, how I could carry on a conversation with them as a real person, and how intuitive they were. I quickly saw that although I hope to teach them so many valuable things, I know I will take much more away from this experience than they will.
So no, this semester is not going to go as planned. It won't be a dysfunctional semester with scattered lessons, a bad cooperating teacher, and horrific students. Rather, it will be a well planned experience with phenominal engaging lessons, an incredibly talented teacher, and students who are ready to learn and offer me their wisdom. I can't wait to go back in November and actually start teaching these kids! More to come on this exciting new teaching adventure, so stay tuned!!
Until then,
Brittany
